From the Parks Department:
We are evaluating a potential prescribed pile burn at Blunn Creek Nature Preserve on Thursday, April 10 with Friday, April 11 as a fallback. This pile burn will remove accumulations of dead wood, improve sight lines along the trails and safety for park users, and facilitate selective thinning in the understory to help achieve the management goal of a diverse, predominately wooded ecosystem that will be resilient to climate stressors such as extreme heat, drought, disease, and wildfire into the coming decades.
The operation will be conducted by staff from Austin Parks and Recreation and Austin Fire Department. Although wildfire has been much in the news lately, weather and fuel conditions at Blunn Creek are favorable and smoke impacts outside the preserve are expected to be minimal.
Hiking trails will remain open.
