CodeNEXT is the City of Austin initiative to revise the Land Development Code, which determines how land can be used throughout the city – including what can be built, where it can be built, and how much can (and cannot) be built. The process of revising/replacing the code has been ongoing for several years. The draft of the new code was released in February, and the maps showing proposed new zoning for the entire city were released in April. All online information relating to the new code and new zoning maps can be found here:

These are the first code maps, but not the last and it will be evolving based on the community’s comments. It is important that you participate in the future of Austin’s land development code. There are a number of ways you can send your opinions to the staff, one of which is online here:
