As part of its neighborhood outreach, the Texas Department of Transportation has sent representatives to the last few SRCC neighborhood meetings. They explained some of the changes to the intersection of I-35 and Oltorf St. They also spoke of what we can expect in the coming months before the project is completed.
The most contentious item has been the permanent closure of the southbound I-35 exit at Oltorf Street. Anyone wishing to go to Oltorf must now exit at Woodland, just south of the river. Residents of Woodland attended the meetings and have pointed out that this has resulted in a substantial increase in traffic on Woodland/Annie, especially during rush hour. Other neighborhood streets are also seeing an increase in cut-through traffic.
