In 2008 the SRCC negotiated with developers (Kaplan Management)Â who had purchased the Sunnymeade apartments about their plans to build a new residential complex in place of the existing one. The developers came to the table having already addressed many of the concerns the SRCC often times had to fight for so the process went fairly smooth. St Edwards also weighed in on the development as it potentially partially blocked their view of downtown. Shortly after the agreement was made, the Sunnymeade apartments were demolished but with the economy suffering the new project was delayed. Right at about the time the city started the Oltorf reconstruction project, The District at SoCo broke ground.
