Announcement from Save Our Springs Alliance

There is a resolution on the Council agenda next week, July 24th, Item 121, addressing PUDs (Planned Unit Development) in the Southshore Central Waterfront area. This resolution allows the continuing the ad hoc manner in which PUDs are already being handled with vague policy guidance.

City Council Meeting, July-24, Item-121

SOS is encouraging SRCC members to raise objections and ask for real standards that are protective for the waterfront.

The Statesman PUD and other projects are seeking:

  • To shrink the Lake Overlay Ordinance shoreline setbacks from, in most instances, 150 feet to 90 feet or less;
  • To get rid of or greatly increase the 30% impervious cover limit in the secondary setback (the strip 150 to 200 feet from the shoreline);
  • To allow downtown skyscrapers in height; and
  • To reduce the affordable housing requirements.

  • Goal of Lake Overlay Ordinance: The basic tradeoff for future development and redevelopment was simple: push back from the lake and in exchange you get increased entitlements to go up in height, to the 200 foot  or so range, stepping back and up from the shore.
